Welcome! As this is my first blog post, I thought a simple introduction to the role Chinese Medicine can play Women’s Health was fitting. While I was still in school, we were exposed to a variety of conditions and taught how acupuncture can be used in the treatment of all of these conditions. While the scope of Chinese Medicine is so vast, I have found that I am most passionate in working with Women’s Health. Within this category there are a variety of conditions treatable with acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Chinese Medicine can be useful in all stages of a woman’s life. Listed below are some of the most commonly treated symptoms or issues in Women’s Health. For simplicity, let’s break it all down:

  1. The Menstrual Cycle:
    • PMS:
      • Dysmenorrhea (Painful Periods)
      • Emotional Extremes: Sadness, anger, irritability
    • Irregular Cycles
    • Amenorrhea (Loss of period for 3 or more months)
    • PCOS
  2. Infertility
  3. Pregnancy:
    • Morning Sickness
    • Back Pain
  4. Postpartum:
    • Depression
    • Insufficient Lactation
    • Mastitis
    • Constipation
  5. Perimenopause & Menopause
    • Nightsweats
    • Insomnia
    • Hot Flashes
    • Anxiety

When a woman seeks out Chinese medical treatment for any of the above issues, a thorough assessment is then made in order to determine a Chinese Medical pattern diagnosis. Therefore, one woman coming in for PMS might receive an entirely different treatment and entirely different diet and lifestyle recommendations based on her specific pattern. This is what makes Chinese Medicine so unique; in this holistic style of medicine we are able to treat the woman and not just her illness. Stay tuned for more specifics on the aforementioned conditions and more!
